Elks Americanism Poster and Essay Contest winners

CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Elks Lodge 1272 hosted an Americanism Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Feb. 1. This banquet was to honor the three finalists at each level from the Americanism Poster and Essay Contest.

Place winners were announced at the Awards Ceremony and are as follows:

Poster Contest, Ages 4-5: 1st -Charlette “Charley” Pliescott - Age 5 - Sandy Hill Elementary; 2nd - Aliza Adams - Age 5 - Sandy Hill Elementary; 3rd - Katie Summerlin - Age 4 - Vienna Elementary.

Poster Contest, Ages 6-7: 1st - Gavin Adshead - Age 6 - Warwick Elementary; 2nd - Breanna Ball - Age 7 - Choptank Elementary; 3rd - Brooke Wanex - Age 7 - Maple Elementary

Poster Contest, Ages 8-9: 1st - Kayla Scrimshaw - Age 9 - Choptank Elementary; 2nd - Joseph Turner Crouch - Age 9 - Choptank Elementary; 3rd - Austin Kimmey - Age 9 - Warwick Elementary.

Essay Contest, Grades 5-6: 1st - Abigail Kruppa - Grade 6 - North Dorchester Middle School; 2nd - Haley Edward - Grade 5 - Maple Elementary School; 3rd - Stephen Layton - Grade 6 - North Dorchester Middle School

Essay Contest Grades 7-8: 1st - Sha’ Jones - Grade 8 - North Dorchester Middle School; 2nd - Beth Thomas - Grade 8 - North Dorchester Middle School; 3rd - Abbey DeCarlo - Grade 8 - North Dorchester Middle School.

At the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony, District Americanism Chairperson was on hand to deliver some very exciting news for four students. These four students have placed 1st at the District Competition level and moved on to the State Competition. Additionally, all of the four students that have moved on to the State Competition have placed and will receive that recognition at the State Americanism Banquet and Awards Ceremony. The following students received awards on Feb. 16 in Frederick,: Charlette “Charley” Pliescott, Gavin Adshead, Kayla Scrimshaw and Sha’ Jones. More news will follow with the placing of these students.
